1997 Land Award Winner: IdeaVerse, Network Software Center, Lucent Technologies
IdeaVerse is a grassroots initiative sparked by the words of a new business leader who said he wanted Lucent to "bring our true selves and talents to the opportunities of the marketplace." He also commented that the brainpower of people was the organization's best competitive advantage. With that inspiration, IdeaVerse was created with the mission of "supporting a climate that nurtures creativity and innovation in our business."
While IdeaVerse is a place, it is also an "infinite space." The physical place is a high-energy environment filled with color, light, and music ... a place where murals, toys, games, and beanbag chairs share the space with a floor-to-ceiling whiteboard and other high-tech meeting enhancers. It's an ideal space for the custom ideation sessions and team meetings that are held there. With its rich resource library of books, videos and tapes, it's also a perfect place for individual reflection.
Beyond the physical space itself, IdeaVerse exists wherever people are interested in learning how to think and collaborate more creatively. The IdeaVerse staff of five offers real-life support to individuals willing to tinker with creativity tools and techniques within their organizations.
