Just imagine…

You glance at the calendar—it’s December 27, 2001—and you reflect on the past year.

People you work with have really loosened up. New ideas practically seep out of the walls, and upper management is really hearing them these days. Everywhere you look, there are teams strategizing, implementing and reaping the rewards of success. Where once meetings were dreaded, now they are celebrations of collaboration. You and your colleagues are working, laughing and sweating together.
You understand where the organization is going, and you can feel the commitment around you for everyone to reach the finish line together! The flow of information has vastly improved—and there’s practically nothing that isn’t accessible.

You played a big role in making changes that help your organization to be more innovative. And, just to remind you, your boss has just left your office, saying, "Thanks for all you’ve done!"

Learning Objectives:

Examine and understand the nature of innovation:
  • study the elements of innovation using the Innovation DNA framework

  • see how they show up in real life and real organizations

  • discover what drives innovation in organizations

  • explore how dimensions of innovation are demonstrated in one1s own organization and what the drivers may be

Activities/Experientials:
  • Unwind, loosen up and get to know fellow participants using improvisational theatre-influenced exercises.

  • Gain clarity on your vision of an ideal, innovative culture through a collage of photographic images, icons and objects that help you express your aspirations in an eloquent and meaningful way.


  • Use improv theatre principles to experience a "meta" level of collaboration and learn how to take those back to your organization.

  • Practice inquiry and dialog skills to enhance listening for ideas.

  • Build a 3-dimensional model of an innovative culture to explore the relationships between structure, processes and the people factors that produce innovation.

An understanding of innovation that facilitates your having the greatest possible impact on developing a more innovative culture:
