Vision:
What do I remember most about Convergence 2000?
The "Risk the Reins" pre-conference workshop!
Some of the workshop activities felt risky at times,
and I felt a little silly putting on horseback riding attire
for a business workshop.
I recall that doubt set in as I mounted my horse and headed
out on the trail ride. I envied the people who elected just
to use their own two feet and not climb onto a powerful,
1000-pound animal.
In dealing with the horse, I felt two-way communication
in a physical way that I've reflected on long after. After
I got used to the horse, I was able to tune in to the sound
of the birds, the breeze through the trees and feel the
sun on my shoulders. I even spotted a coyote! In the end,
I was glad to have challenged myself.
The workshop resulted in personal "ahas"
and powerful conversations with my colleagues in the workshop.
I felt very connected and creative, and inspired to apply
my learning back at work and at home.
Later, I brought the "Risk the Reins" workshop
to my organization with powerful results. I realized that
building an innovative culture requires trust in relationships.
To build that trust, I've learned to listen, build rappoire
and communicate in a way that's helped me to successfully
"sell" innovative ideas, products and services within my
organization.
