Good Morning Thinkers!

Creating an Exceptional Learning Environment
Every year as we plan Convergence, we grapple with the
question of creating a better learning environment. We thought this
might be a question of interest to you not only as people who are affected
by the learning environment around you but also as folks who are trying
to create better learning environments.
We believe this is a critical issue. Mary Bateson in her book "Peripheral
Vision" states:
Learning is perhaps the only pleasure that might replace increasing
consumption as our chosen mode of enriching experience. Someday, the
joy of recognizing a pattern in a leaf or the geological strata in a
cliff face might replace the satisfactions of new carpeting or more
horsepower in an engine,
*and the chance to learn in the workplace might seem more valuable than
increased purchasing power or a move up the organizational chart.* (emphasis
added)
*the chance to learn* ... hmmm ... more important than more money or
more power. The workplace may just be our most viable learning environment
and yet, in spite of Peter Senge and all the learning organization folks'
efforts, how much time do we actually spend thinking about improving
the learning environment at work? It seems like a good topic for some
collective wisdom.
So, think about the most phenomenal learning environment you have experienced
and try to capture its most important aspects and share what made it
unusual and effective (as briefly as possible please).
