The One-Hour-a-Day Phenomenon Recently we heard about a UPS driver who could teach us a lot about life management. Enzo Gugliuzza is a trumpet player who realized that if he didn't keep practicing regularly, his playing lost its spirit. Like many of us with an over-busy life, he needed more time in his day. Then he thought about his lunch hour. "I did the math: an hour a day, 5 hours a week, 20 hours a month -- I could do so many things with that time. I could learn French. I could do anything!" What he did was play the trumpet -- sitting in his UPS truck, he plays the trumpet during his lunch hour. One hour a day. What could we do with one hour a day focused solely on something that makes our spirits soar? Where would we find that hour? A missed lunch? Most of us wouldn't miss the calories. A missed hour of nightly news or sitcoms? Our minds would probably bless this break. It's something to think about ... perhaps even something to make a commitment to ... even if it was only half and hour ... even if it was only 15 minutes. --Joyce Wycoff |
