speaker, author, facilitator, trainer, and innovation consultant.
Alex has an extensive background in business and government planning,
leadership development, and innovative decision-making. A political
scientist by academic training, he has been a full-time professor
of business and public administration (including serving as a graduate
program head) and has served as an advisor to executives in both
corporations and governments internationally on issues relating
to policy analysis, strategic planning, program management, and
organizational redesign. Alex has a solid track record in leadership
development, organizational learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
Alex has also taught innovative thinking courses at several universities
in the United States and Canada, and was among the initial faculty
to serve as evaluators for the "Innovations in American Government
Awards Program" at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard
University.
He has been involved for many
years in the conscious quest for "soul" or spirit at work. He is the past President
of Renaissance Business Associates (RBA), a nonprofit, international association of
people committed to integrity in business and elevating the human spirit in the workplace.
Alex is currently working with the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA)
in several major capacities, including serving as the chair of a national initiative
to promote the concept of public service and restore the "soul" of government. In
addition to numerous publications in mainstream public policy and management, Alex
is a contributor to the book, Rediscovering the Soul of Business: A Renaissance of
Values (1995) where, among other things, he argued for the need to search for the
"soul of government". He has also written about the "innovative soul" at work in his
contributions to the book, Managing in Organizations That Learn (1996),
and co-edited and co-authored the book, Intuition at Work: Pathways to Unlimited
Possibilities, which brings a unique "soulful" approach to combining creativity
and intuition to help people optimize their performance. His work to enhance the creative
and innovative soul in organizations has been featured in Success, Personnel Journal,
Training, and Investors' Business Daily magazines. His most recent, major speaking
engagements include: National ASPA Conference in San Diego, California; PHARMAC 2000
(a national conference for the pharmaceutical industry) in Montreal, Canada; "Summit
on Spirituality and Governance" in Washington, DC; Excellence in Government 2000 Conference
in Washington, DC; World Congress of the Systems Sciences in Toronto, Canada; National
Forum on Strategic Innovation in Toronto, Canada; and Innovation 2000 Conference,
